Haffler Effect Module (KIT50S)

This kit exploits the so-called Haffler Effect, to create a unique third channel for your stereo system. The effect was first developed by David Haffler, who employed the difference signal between stereo channels to obtain an extraordinary effect.

In any stereo recording, there are nearly always sounds which are common to both channels, and sounds which predominate in one or the other channel. Any sound that predominates may be fed to a third channel. This leads to some striking effects.

A particularly striking effect is obtained with applause, which in a stereo recording tends to be markedly different in each channel. Thus any applause is drawn to the fore. Similarly, there is a particularly striking effect with African cheering (in some African music, an audience may cheer in time with the music).
