Main Specifications
- Operating Voltage: 5V – 5.5V DC (regulated required)
- Operating Current: < 1.5A
- Control Type: LDR (light-dependent resistors) differential sensing
- Tracking Type: Single-axis (left/right) or dual-axis (depends on version)
- Sensor Type: 2–4 photoresistors (LDRs)
- Motor Output: DC gear motor driver output (forward/reverse polarity control)
- Board Size: ~35mm × 16mm × 12mm
- Sensor Cable Length: ~15cm
- Response Time: Slow/filtered (prevents jitter in sunlight changes)
How it works
The module compares light levels:
ΔL=Lleft−LrightDelta L = L_{left} - L_{right}ΔL=Lleft−Lright
- If left is brighter → motor turns left
- If right is brighter → motor turns right
- Stops when both sides are equal (balanced light)
Wiring (basic)
- VCC: 5V regulated supply
- GND: Ground
- M+ / M-: DC motor output
- LDR probes: mounted facing different directions (sun sensors)
Important Notes (very important for this module)
- Do NOT connect directly to solar panel (voltage fluctuates too much)
- Must use stable 5V regulator or buck converter
- Works best with slow geared motor
Typical applications
- Solar panel tracking systems
- DIY Arduino solar projects
- Light-following robots
- Educational electronics kits
- Small automation systems
Real performance expectation
- Efficiency gain vs fixed panel: ~10% to 25%
- Best improvement happens in morning/evening sun angles
